BRP Registration (Basisregistratie Personen)

BRP Registration (Basisregistratie Personen)

The Basisregistratie Personen (BRP) is the Dutch system for registering personal information of residents. Registration in the BRP is mandatory for anyone living in the Netherlands for more than four months.

Importance of BRP Registration

  1. Legal Requirement: Ensures compliance with Dutch law.
  2. Access to Services: Necessary for healthcare, education, and other public services.
  3. Official Correspondence: Ensures you receive important communications from government agencies.

How to Register in the BRP

  1. Schedule an Appointment: Make an appointment at a local municipality office.
  2. Required Documents: Bring valid identification (passport or ID card), proof of address, and any other relevant documents (e.g., birth certificate).
  3. In-Person Registration: Attend the appointment to complete the registration process.

Upon successful registration, your information is entered into the BRP, and you will be issued a BSN number if you do not already have one. Registration is crucial for legal residency and accessing various essential services in the Netherlands.
